It Happened One Day
My love for photography started when I first found a Polaroid camera that my father had stashed away in the hall cabinet. I fondly remember discovering this image-maker. I was intrigued at what this camera could produce with the click of a button. What popped out was an instant black & white image. It didn't matter what the image might have been; it was the process that got me to the end result that held my attention the most. Consequently, when I pulled out the paper image I knew the image was starting to develop. I really liked the instant gratification of using Polaroid instant film then. This seemed to be the ultimate experience, the anticipation when the final picture would appear before my eyes when I pulled back the Polaroid paper packet to reveal the picture. Wow!! That was cool!!!
I continued my love of photography throughout high school and into college. I contributed many of my photos to the school newspaper and the school yearbook. I remember the many hours I spent developing my images in the solitude of the darkroom. It was something magical for me. The quietness of the darkroom allowed me to discover the artist within me. This comforting solitude fed my passion for photography that allowed me to develop images using a creative process that I still embrace today.
Now, the process of capturing a digital image invigorates and stimulates my creative spirit. It is much the same type of feeling I had when I held my Fathers' Polaroid instant camera so many years ago. Now, I have the latest in technology at my fingertips. This allows me to reveal artistic elements throughout my collection of fine art photography. Over the years, I have had success displaying my fine art images in numerous galleries in St. Paul and Minneapolis.By trade, I am a commercial photographer for the past 27 years. My longevity has enabled me to develop a strong portfolio that consist of catalog, editorial and advertising work. Throughout my career as a freelance photographer, I have kept my photographic eye sharpened and focused.
My experience as a commercial photographer, and my love of the outdoors, has developed my passion for monochromatic images. I am able to evoke a sense of movement by "capturing the light". This creative medium continues to expose, blend, and communicate the fine line between chaotic and predictable results.
